Florence (Plymale) Boyd, 96 PIC

Florence (Plymale) Boyd, 96, formerly of Williamsburg, VA for over fifty years, passed away in Cleveland, TN on December 16, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Earl W. Boyd, Sr.; daughter, Linda B. Carter; brothers, Thomas W. Plymale, Clarence E. Plymale, E. Russell Plymale, Raymond D. Plymale, and Howard R. Plymale; and niece, Wanda Collins. The daughter of the late William B. and Virginia (Johnson) Plymale, she was born in Bedford County, VA on April 10, 1926 and graduated from Huddleston High School, Bedford County, VA in June 1943. Following graduation, she and several other local friends moved to Newport News, VA to find work at the Newport News Shipyard or the Port of Embarkation to help in the World War II efforts on the home front. She was employed at Newport News City Health Department in 1943 and became a medical Laboratory Assistant from 1944-1952 at Buxton Hospital, Newport News, VA. In 1965, she became the secretary of Williamsburg Baptist Church in Williamsburg, VA. Florence was a Charter Member of Williamsburg Christian Church since its inception in 1964 when a core group of five families began meeting in their home. She sang in the choir, was active in the Women’s group, taught Sunday School, and was the Church Historian. In 2005, she moved to Cottingham Retirement Community in Cincinnati, OH, where she began to take piano lessons, sing in the chorus and was president of Heather Court Assisted Living Council Meetings. She is survived by her son, Earl Wills Boyd, Jr. (Lana), of TN; three grandchildren, Mary A. “Carter” Abercrombie (Russell), of OH, Madeleine Jeanne Boyd, and William Kindrachuk Boyd, of IL; two great-granddaughters, Kalyn Marie and Karyssa Adelle Abercrombie of OH; sisters, Elizabeth Welch, Brenda Witt, and Joyce Beckner, all of VA; brothers, Herbert M. Plymale and Kenneth B. Plymale, both of VA; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life took place on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Williamsburg Christian Church, 200 John Tyler Lane, Williamsburg, Virginia, 23185 by David Faith, (Retired) Assistant Pastor/Administrator, with interment following at Williamsburg Memorial Park.
