Galax Police Department officers charged two people with felony drug possession in recent incidents.
On April 25, Galax police responded to a business in the 500 block of East Stuart Drive, to check on a woman lying on a bench.
Officer Amber Miller identified the subject as Angela Fisher, 58, of Galax, and was eventually able to wake her up. There was an open can of alcohol with Fisher, as well as another container of alcohol that Fisher stated belonged to her, the report said. Given the odor of alcoholic beverage coming from her, slurred speech and the delay in her answers, she was placed under arrest.
Subsequent to her arrest, a bag belonging to Fisher was inventoried, in which officers found a plastic baggie containing a glass pipe with a powdery substance suspected to be methamphetamine.
Fisher was charged with misdemeanor drunk in public and felony possession of a controlled substance. She was transported to the New River Valley Regional Jail to be held without bond.
On April 26, Officer Tiffany Melton stopped a vehicle in the 900 block of East Stuart Drive. She did so because the registration status on the vehicle’s tag indicated that it belonged to a demolished car.
The driver was identified as Justin Talley, 29, of Nathalie. While checking Talley’s driving status, which was suspended for DUI-related issues, Melton discovered he had an active warrant from another jurisdiction, the report said. Talley was placed under arrest and an inventory of the vehicle was conducted before it was towed.
Officer Michael Tozzolo located a pipe with residue and black charring suspected to be cocaine, according to the report. Talley was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor driving while suspended and issued a summons for improper tags.
He was given no bond on those charges, as well as the charge from the other jurisdiction, and was transported to the New River Valley Regional Jail.
