FAIRVIEW — On Nov. 26, the Twin County Railroad Club will host their 30th Annual Train Fair at the Fairview Ruritan Club.

The club is off Route 89, south of Galax.

The Train Fair is from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and will feature the annual swap meet and operating displays of model trains. Door prizes are given hourly.

The club formed in 1982 and began building an HO-scale layout depicting the North Carolina Branch. The model included the intended (but never built) extension to the state line at Paul’s Creek in Lambsburg, where it would have met the Cape Fear and Yadkin Railroad, above Mount Airy N.C.

In 1991, the club hosted their first Train Fair at the Fairview Ruritan Club, featuring a swap meet for model trains and railroad collectibles.

After they lost their layout in a fire in 1995, the club raised money to buy and transport the caboose to the Galax trailhead of the New River Trial (the former right-of-way of the NC Branch). The club still plans to build another layout modeling the NC Branch, when a location can be found.

Admission to the train fair is $5 per person or $10 per family. If you have items to sell, table space for the swap meet is still available.
