Our family is sad to announce the passing of Lacy Earl Bowman, 87, who passed away suddenly on Nov. 12, 2022, at his home in Hillsville, Va. Lacy was born in Carroll County on April 14, 1935, to the late Thomas Franklin Bowman and Clara Belle Farris Bowman. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Garner Bowman, Mason Bowman and Lowell Bowman; and sister, Marie Stevens.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Dreama Smith Bowman of the home; sister, Kathleen Bowman Sutphin of Laurel Fork; five daughters, Regina (Kenny) Williams of Wytheville, Va., Carolyn (Roger) Smith of Riner, Va., Dana (Tom) Herman of Plantation, Fla., Jill (Harvey) Ward of Galax, Va. and Judy Stoneman of Hillsville, Va.; three stepchildren that he loved as his own, Sherri (Brad) Williams of Max Meadows, Va., Jestin (Bridget) Chrisley of Christiansburg, Va., Stephanie (David) Boatman of Woodlawn, Va.; 13 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and his right-hand man and special nephew that was like the son he never had, Lowell Bowman Jr.

Lacy’s passion and hobby was cattle and he established Lacy Bowman livestock at an early age. He also began the Memorial Day flea market that brought many to our small town. He was a visionary and an asset to our county and will be sadly missed by many.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11 a.m., with Elder Gleason Worrell and Elder Dan Puckett officiating. Burial will follow in the Worrell Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at the funeral home from 5 until 8 p.m.
