Independence Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a water rescue on the New River in the Cox’s Chapel community of Grayson County on May 30 just after noon. According to an incident report, crews located two subjects stranded on some rocks in the river and brought them to shore. A third subject was able to continue on down the river. Firefighters transported the other two to their meeting place. IVFD urged those using the river for recreation to use caution, as this was the second rescue call they responded to in two days. The department thanked Twin County E-911 and Independence Volunteer Rescue Squad for their help.
